Djakarta International Theater Platform

Djakarta International Theatre Platform (DITP) is a platform for critical discourse and artistic experimentation of the performing arts. As a platform, DITP functions as more than a festival of stage performances. DITP aims to become a space of exchange – an infrastructure of diverse practices and artistic sensibilities.

Through programs that include performances, labs, workshops, symposiums, exhibitions, and more we seek to connect ideas across artistic disciplines and national borders. Ultimately, DITP encourages the artistic imagination to engage with socio-political complexities of international and regional dis/order.

This year is the 8th year of DITP. The 8th Djakarta International Theater Platform is supervised by the Jakarta Arts Council, organized by Gema Citra Nusantara, and supported by Dana Indonesiana/Indonesiana Fund, the Ministry of Culture Republic of Indonesia, and Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP)/Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education Agency.

Bumantara

For the 2025-2027 period, DITP adopts the concept of ‘Bumantara’ as a critical compass for navigating connections and collaborations in the Southeast Asia region. Coined in 1975 by the Indonesian intellectual Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana, Bumantara combines ‘bumi’ (land/earth) and ‘antara’ (in-between) to reimagine Southeast Asia as a fluid geopolitical entity. Bumantara envisions the region as a site of mediation, shaped by histories of navigation, trade, and cultural flows.

DITP sees Bumantara not as a concept of nationalism. DITP adopts Bumantara to reimagine the realities of infrastructure as a means for cooperation and co-existence. What does it mean to stage and be staged as “Southeast Asian”? How can the stage become an infrastructure to connect diverse artistic possibilities embedded in the term South, East, and Asia?
