‘DWELLING / DEPARTING’ Kamizu (Myanmar)

Djakarta International Theater Platform in collaboration with TERASIA

In this new iteration of the Masking / Unmasking series, Myanmar artist Kamizu presents ‘Dwelling / Departing’—a participatory tribute to those who lost their lives resisting Myanmar’s military regime. Through the presence of masked faces, the installation honors their courage and sacrifice, offering a poetic space for remembrance. In a quiet, contemplative setting, visitors are invited to be fully present—to grieve, reflect, and perhaps rediscover a sense of home within themselves.

How do we define home; is it a place, a body, a memory, or something we carry within?

Dwelling / Departing invites audiences into a living installation that reflects on the impermanence and intimacy of "home." Rooted in the memory of lives lost, the masked figures represent spirits who have departed their physical homes, their bodies. You are invited not just to observe but to participate, write, draw, whisper, or place objects to contribute to a growing archive of what it means to belong.

‘Dwelling / Departing’ An Exhibition by Kamizu

5-12 August 2025

10.00-21.00 WIB

Gallery Cipta 2

Set against the backdrop of this year’s DITP theme, rumah || panggung, the exhibition expands the idea of home beyond its physical structure. What does it mean to feel at home? Is your body a home for your spirit—or is your spirit the true dwelling place? Can a memory, a scent, an object, or a voice be your home?

This exhibition continues Kamizu’s ongoing tribute to those who lost their lives resisting Myanmar’s military regime. Their faces, masked and memorialized, speak of spirits that may have departed—but still linger. They gave up their earthly homes to protect something greater: their families, their country, their dignity.
